"I compete in a 3-phase dog sport called IGP which involves tracking, obedience, and protection. In 2021 I took the leap from competing at club level to National. Leading up to every trial I would struggle with trial nerves and anxiety. I have read articles on performance anxiety and competition preparedness which I found somewhat useful for club level, but I found that the pressure of a larger event was still a major struggle. I am grateful for the opportunity to work 1:1 with Josh on the mental side of preparing and competing for higher level competition as not only has he studied this, he has lived it. Although our sports are quite different, there are many similarities in the mental preparation and performance. Josh provided me with several ways to stop negative thought and nurture positivity, as well as calm the mental chaos in the weeks/days leading up to and the day of competition. Josh has provided helpful strategies to focus on learning from each success and each failure, focusing on what you can control and accepting what you can't no matter the outcome. "I was having some issues with my performance and was questioning whether I was going to continue in my sport or give it up and retire.
